The above quote is taken from Ernest Ransom's 1924 book "The Mantle." While in prison for his alleged role in the Haymarket Square Riot, Ransom wrote this book in response to a letter from A.A. Hayes, editor of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, who asked Ransom to explain why he was not writing his articles from prison.
